The Jr. Vikings football team got their 2015 exhibition season off to a
strong start on the road with a 42-6 win over their counterparts from
Strathroy District Collegiate Institute.
The first half saw the Vikings put 28 points on the board thanks to two
touchdown runs apiece by Gabe Barnes and Alec Trussler. Barnes and Angelo
Georgio converted all extra points. The Vikings held strong defensively in
the first half, highlighted by a fumble recovery from Hunter Hendrie.
Justin Waun came up with a big interception for the Vikings in the 3rd
quarter. On the next play, Jackson Smiley ran the ball 70 yards for a
Vikings touchdown. Georgio kicked the extra point.
In the 4th quarter, Oliver Ham and Jackson Smiley both had big runs that led
to quarterback Hendrie throwing the ball to Adam Riggi for a major. Georgio
again made good with the extra point.
The Vikings and Saints traded touchdowns in the final minutes of the game.
Strathroy fumbled their two point conversion attempt, but the Vikings
Georgio kicked the single.
The game ended with the Vikings on top, 49-6
