
Coming off a 5 - 3 win over Wheatley Saturday night in Great Lakes
Jr C league action, the Flags took a 7 - 4 loss in Blenheim Sunday
night.
After a tight first period both sides
were even with one apiece. Matt Clark scored for Blenheim and
a minute a four seconds later Nolan Riley evened the score.
In the second Alec Segers gave the Flags
the lead for the first and only time early in the period only to
have Blenheim's Nolan VandenBoorn scored just over a minute later.
Blenheim went on and scored back to back goals to take a 4 - 2 lead
with Hunter Burk and Kirk McKillop scoring. Mooretown battled
back and at 14:13 Joe DeSena narrowed the gap and the score would
remain 4 - 3 heading into the final period.
Three minutes into the third Blenheim
widened their lead to 5 on a goal scored by Kier Cumming. Flags
Trevor Bogaert scored the only power play goal in the game that
narrowed the gap once again. But just before the midway point
VandenBoorn added his second goal of the night for the Blades.
In an last minute effort the Flags pulled their goalie only to have
VandenBoorn score his third into the empty net.
Shots on goal recorded were Blenheim 36
- Mooretown 22. Brandon Johnson took the loss turning away 29
shots, Eric Stewardson took the win with 18 saves.
Mooretown played a more disciplined game taking just 4 penalty
minutes on 2 infractions allowing zero power plays for Blenheim.
Blenheim took 12 minutes on 6 infractions giving Mooretown 4
opportunities and scoring once.
The loss allowed Blenheim (8-5-1) to
leap over the Flags (8-6) and take a one point lead and fourth spot
in the standings race.
Mooretown is back in action for a mid
week game at home when they host the Lakeshore Canadiens at 8:00 pm
at the Moore Recreation Centre.
