Rapids Swimmers Finish Strong Season

Twenty-eight
swimmers from the Sarnia Y
Rapids I Swim Team competed in
the St. Clair Erie Aquatic
League (SEAL) Championships in
late April to cap off their
2014-2015 season. Lauren
Armstrong, 7, finished 1st
overall among the 7-and-under
girls’ group, while her teammate
Kate Bedard, also 7, finished 3rd.
Lauren came 1st in
the group’s 25m backstroke,
breaststroke and freestyle, and
2nd in the 25m
butterfly, improving all her
personal best times (PBTs). Kate
placed 3rd in the 25m
backstroke and 25m freestyle and
4th in the 25m
breaststroke. Among the boys,
Trevor Kozak took 2nd
overall in the 7-and-under boys’
group, with a 1st-place
finish in the 25m backstroke, 2nd
in the 25m butterfly and
breaststroke and 4th
in the 25m freestyle. Trevor
also improved all his PBTs.
Shona Branton,
12, finished 1st in
the 100m Individual Medley (IM)
and 100m breaststroke while also
besting all her PBTs. Jack
Biggar, 13, earned 3rd
place in his 100m breaststroke
event, finishing in the Top 10
with PBTs in each of his
individual events.
Others earning
ribbons for up to 6th
place were: Ciara Brown, 13,
with a 4th-place
finish in the 100m freestyle;
Gregory Dietrich, also 13,
achieved PBTs in each of his
individual events, coming 5th
in the 100m breaststroke; and
Nadine Osmon, 13, for a 5th-place
finish in the 50m butterfly.
Annabelle Rayson,
9, and McKenna Brown and Warren
Millward, both 11, beat all of
their previous PBTs, while Diane
Clarke, 13, did so in four of
her events. Isaac Jones, 9,
shaved as much as 17 seconds off
his PBTs in his individual
swims, while Travis Kozak, 9,
bested his PBTs by as much as 13
seconds. His brother Zakk, 11,
also earned five PBTs. Braedan
Babenko and Isabella Wright,
both 9, and Ayrianna Batson, 11,
each had three PBTs, while
Taylor Marut, 10, had two Top 10
finishes and three PBTs. Her
brother, Trevor, 8, and Nik
Mukherjee, 11, also swam to
three PBTs. Carter Brush, 9,
bested his PBT in the 100m IM by
more than 14 seconds and for the
25m breaststroke by almost 10.
Samuel Dietrich, 11, also
achieved two PBTs. Tyler Murphy,
11, shot past his previous PBT
in the 100m freestyle by 19
seconds, while Gabrion Tulang,
10, bested his PBT in the 50m
butterfly by more than 12
seconds. Kaiden Rawson, 12, had
a Top 10 finish and three PBTs.
Also participating were Kristen
Alexander, 8, and Allie Rawson,
10.
