A pair of promising young
local players have signed
with the Sarnia
Legionnaires.
Head coach Mark Davis said
Thursday the Jr. 'B' hockey
club has added centre Alec
DeKoning of Sombra and
defenceman Eric Marsh of
Wyoming to its roster.
Marsh, a 17-year-old who
stands 6'2 and weighs 200
pounds, played Jr. 'C' for
the Alvinston Flyers last
winter, picking up 20 points
(three goals and 17 assists)
in 40 games. He also had a
playoff goal during six post
season contests.
DeKoning, also 17, is a
centre who scored 20 goals
and set up 25 others while
playing 'AAA' midget hockey.
He also appeared in three
games with the Legionnaires.
They will help fill a few
holes for Sarnia, which is
losing 10 players to
graduation.
Davis described Marsh as a
big player who moves the
puck well. He also noted
Eric was used on the
powerplay by the Flyers last
year.
As for DeKoning, Davis said,
“He has great skills, sees
the ice well and skates
well. He could be a top
centre in our league in a
few years.”
Marsh, who attends Lambton
Central Collegiate, said he
can contribute both
offensively and defensively.
DeKoning, who attends St.
Pat's High School, said he's
a playmaker with strong
skating skills.
DeKoning, who stands 5'10
and weighs 175 pounds, added
signing with the
Legionnaires “is an honour.”
As for his long-term
objective in hockey, he said
he hopes to eventually play
in the NCAA.
