The Sarnia
Legionnaires are
looking for a new
head coach.
Tom Knight,
president of the
Western Jr. 'B'
hockey club,
announced Tuesday
afternoon that Rose
had resigned after
five years as
Sarnia's bench boss.
Rose, a native of
Point Edward, is the
dean of Western Jr.
'B' hockey ice
generals, having
coached more than
500 games over the
past 11 seasons.
During his stint
with the
Legionnaires the
club won one Stan
Moore Trophy as
regular season
champions. That
triumph came in
2012, the same year
he was named the
Ontario Hockey
Association's
coach-of-the-year in
2012.
However, post season
success eluded him,
with the club
winning just two
playoff rounds
during his tenure.
Rose had no comment
on the reasons for
his resignation.
Legionnaires
president Tom Knight
said, “We thank Dan
for his dedication
and time commitment.
He put a lot of work
into it.”
He added Rose spent
far more time on the
job than many people
realize because he
had to travel back
and forth from his
home in Port Stanley
for practices and
games.
Knight said the
Legionnaires will
name a replacement
in about two weeks.
In the meantime,
they are welcoming
applications from
interested parties.
"We're building a
new team next year
with at least 10 new
pieces (because 10
players are too old
to return),” he
said.
