Five individuals and one
team make up the
Sarnia-Lambton Sports Hall
of Fame's class of 2015.
Those inducted include the
following:
Professional (one
recipient)
Former Toronto Maple Leafs
goalie Tim Bernhardt, for
his achievements as a
professional hockey player.
Bernhardt, a Sarnia native
who played Jr. 'B' hockey in
the city, was drafted into
the NHL in 1978. In all, he
played 67 games with the
Leafs and Calgary Flames. He
also enjoyed considerable
success in the American
Hockey League.
Amateur (two
recipients)
Two amateur athletes are
being enshrined, including
weightlifter Dallas Santavy
and gymnast Melanie Rocca.
Santavy has won multiple
gold medals during a career
that has seen him compete
across Canada and around the
world. Among other things,
he has taken part in two
Commonwealth Games (in 1998
in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
and in 2006 at Melbourne,
Australia). At the Melbourne
Games he competed in the 94
kilo class, placing fifth in
snatch, third in the clean
and jerk and fifth in total.
He also competed in the 2007
Pan Am Games in Rio de
Janeiro, Brazil and the 2010
world championships in
Antalya, Turkey.
Rocca has competed in scores
of national and
international competitions
as well, often finishing
first in vault, bars, beam
and floor events. She was
named to the Mayor's Honour
List in 2003 for outstanding
service to the people of
Sarnia.
Bud Morrison (one
recipient)
Rick Goodhand, won the Bud
Morrison award for making
significant contributions to
young people in their sports
endeavours.
Goodhand has worked behind
the scenes for the Forest
Minor Ball Association for
decades, doing everything
from coaching and
fundraising to helping to
maintain diamonds.
Special achievement
(one recipient)
James Taylor is being
recognized in the special
achievement category, which
goes to those who have made
a significant contribution
to sports in areas beyond
athletic endeavours.
A 7th degree
black belt, Taylor has been
a master instructor at
Bluewater Taekwondo. Over
the decades he has coached
over 140 regional,
provincial and national
champions.
Team (one recipient)
The 1987 Sarnia Sanivan
men's fastball team was
chosen in this category.
This squad won the
Intermediate AA Provincial
championship and the Sarnia
Town and Country regular
season and playoff
championships.
Team members included Wayne

Hobin, David McKinnon, Bob
Einhorn, Tom Barr, Ted
Davies, Darcy Kohut, Harry
Saar, Larry Van Cowenburg,
Rick Bettridge, Doug
MacLachlan, Harold
McLachlan, Al Melton, Chuck
Archer and Lou Dimuzio.
Bob Williamson was the
manager, with Fred Fletcher
serving as an assistant.
Stan Hocking was the coach,
with Paul Campbell serving
as an assistant.
All the inductees will be
honoured at the 33rd
annual enshrinement dinner,
which will be held Sept. 26
at the Camlachie Community
Centre.
