Meets
Two swimmers from
the Sarnia Y Rapids
1 Swim Team were
1st-place finishers
at the St. Clair
Erie Aquatic League
(SEAL) swim meet in
Windsor on January
11.
Shona Branton, 12,
won her 100m
breaststroke event,
and Trevor Marut, 7,
came 1st in his 25m
backstroke. He added
2nd place finishes
in the 25m butterfly
and breaststroke,
and 3rd in the 25m
freestyle. Shona and
Trevor were joined
at the meet by 30 of
their teammates.
Several of their
teammates finished
in the Top 3 in at
least one individual
event.
Lauren Armstrong, 7,
placed 2nd in the
25m backstroke and
breaststroke. Kate
Bedard, 7, finished
2nd in the 25
freestyle and 3rd in
the 25m butterfly,
backstroke and
breaststroke. Nadine
Osmon, 13, came 3rd
in the 50m butterfly
while Allie Rawson,
9, did so in the 50m
freestyle. Nes
Tulang, 13, finished
3rd in the 100m IM.
Others earning
ribbons for up to
6th place were:
Braedan Babenko, 9,
for the 25m
backstroke; Jack
Biggar, 12, in the
200m Individual
Medley (IM), 50m
butterfly, 100m
breaststroke and
100m freestyle;
Ciara Brown, 12, for
the 100m
breaststroke;
Gregory Dietrich,
12, in the 100m
backstroke; and
Kaiden Rawson, 12,
for the 100m IM, 50m
butterfly and 100m
freestyle. Dylan
Cloud, 13, cracked
the Top 10 in three
of his events.
McKenna Brown, 10,
Diane Clarke, 12,
Taylor Marut, 10,
and Isabella Wright,
9, improved their
personal best times
(PBTs) in each of
their individual
events while Olivia
Conroy, 11 improved
four of her PBTs,
Daisy Jenkins, 8,
and Annabelle Rayson,
9, did in three of
theirs, and Devan
Dyck, 10, did the
same in two events.
Isaac Jones, 9, took
almost 30 seconds
off his previous PBT
in the 100m IM.
Samuel Dietrich, 11,
shaved more than 20
seconds from his PBT
in the 50m butterfly
while Arianah Dreise,
11, had a similar
improvement in her
PBT in the 50m
backstroke, taking
almost 16 seconds
off hers. Gabrion
Tulang, 9, knocked
off 23 seconds in
the 100m freestyle.
Josie Gilpin, 7,
took 5 seconds off
her time in the 25m
backstroke. Ayrianna
Batson, 11, Carter
Brush, 9, Cameron
Dew, 13, Vanessa
Dyck, 9, Warren
Millward, 11, and
Tyler Murphy, 10
also participated.
Nine members of the
Sarnia Y Rapids I
Swim Team
participated in the
12 & Under
Celebration in
London on January 17
and 18. Of those,
Shona and Ciara each
finished 1st in one
event (Shona in the
100m breaststroke
and Ciara in the 50m
backstroke). Shona
also finished 2nd in
the 50m backstroke.
Jack earned 3rd
place in the 50m
backstroke, adding
5th place in the
100m breaststroke
and 6th in the 200m
freestyle. Trevor
placed 3rd in the
50m backstroke and
4th in the 50m
freestyle, while
Taylor finished 3rd
in the 50m
backstroke and 100m
butterfly, and 4th
in the 100m
breaststroke. Kaiden
earned a 6th place
finish in the 100m
breaststroke and
improved two PBTs.
McKenna also
improved two PBTs,
as did Nik Mukherjee,
11. Ella Savage, 10,
improved her PBT in
the 50m backstroke.
