The Sarnia Jr. Lady
Sting Bantam C
hockey team won
Bronze this past
weekend at the South
Bend Irish Cup at
the beautiful
University of Notre
Dame.
In pool play, the
Lady Sting tied the
Chicago Hawks 3-3 in
an exciting back and
forth game. Scoring
for Sarnia were
Emily Chute, Macey
Leppington and
Alexandra Rizkallah.
Game 2 versus
Naperville, IL
Sabres was a 3-0 win
for the Lady Sting.
Bulging the twine
for the Sting were
Erin Ellis-Parr,
Madilyn
Gooding-Fairbairn
and Samantha Meere.
The shutout was
earned by Holly
Moraal.
The third game was a
matchup vs the
top-rated Orland
Park, IL Vikings at
the beautiful
Compton Family ice
Arena (Lefty Smith
pad) on the campus
of Notre Dame. This
was a very exciting,
well played game
with tight checking
and several goal
scoring
opportunities. The
end result was a 1-1
tie with Emily
Anderson scoring for
Sarnia on a nice
wrist shot in the
low slot over the
goalies glove hand.
Despite the
undefeated record of
2 wins and 2 ties
the Lady Sting found
themselves in the
Bronze Medal game in
a rematch vs the
Naperville Sabres.
The Lady Sting
played a smothering
offensive game
out-shooting
Naperville 34-9 and
winning 3-0. Goals
scorers were Madilyn
Gooding-Fairbairn,
Erin Ellis-Parr and
Alexandra Rizkallah
and another shutout
was earned by Holly
Moraal.
A fantastic weekend
was enjoyed by the
Lady Sting going
undefeated in the
tournament and
between games they
experienced the
University of Notre
Dame with a tour of
the Campus seeing up
close the Football
Stadium, the Grotto,
Hesburgh Library,
the Basilica, the
Golden Dome, the
Football Locker Room
and stepping onto
the grass in the end
zone of the Football
Stadium.
