The Sarnia Legionnaires obtained
St. Marys Lincolns captain Mitch
Read right at the trade
deadline.
General manager Bob Williamson
announced Sunday the local Jr.
'B' hockey club had acquired the
veteran defenceman in a straight
cash deal.
Read is a 19-year-old who stands
5'11 and weighs in at 170
pounds. He had five goals and
seven assists while playing for
the last place Lincs this
season.
"He'll be in our top four (as
far as rearguards go), he's
going to be a big addition,”
Williamson said.
Read's older brother, Matt,
plays for the Philadelphia
Flyers of the National Hockey
League. Like Mitch, he played
Western Jr. 'B' hockey before
turning pro.
Read was the third player
acquired by the Legionnaires in
the days leading up to the trade
deadline, which came Saturday at
midnight. The other two were
all-star goalie Andrew Masters,
also of St. Marys, and big
rearguard Connor Andersen of the
Brampton Bombers. All three were
obtained for cash.
Williamson also announced Sarnia
has traded goalie Hunter Johnson
to the Welland Canadians for
cash.
