Mooretown Flags Final Game of 2015

The Mooretown Flags traveled to Blenheim Sunday night for their final game of 2015 and came away with a single point after losing in overtime 4 - 3 to the Blades in Great Lakes Jr. C hockey league action.

 

"We played well, just could find a way to win." said head coach Doug Slipacoff

 

The Flags scored the only goal in the first period on a power play by Mike Kindrachuk with Ben Morrison and Ryan Lyle assisting. 

 

In the second Cameron Rannie gave the Flags a 2 - 0 lead with Kyle Smith and Kindrachuk picking up the assist.  Blenheim answered back scoring their first, a power play goal by Brayden Hopkins. 

 

In the third three goals were scored before the half way point of the period.  Blenheim scored back to back goals the first at 1:47 by Nick Delyzer and the second to take the lead at 5:15 by Kirk McKillop.  The Flags on a power play tied the game at 7:33 with Ryan Lyle from Colton Osborne and Mike Kindrachuk assisting.  Action continue and the scored remained at 3 - 3 at the end of regulation time sending the game into overtime, where Kirk McKillop scored the game winner for Blenheim at 3:45.

 

"Battled hard all game and rolled all four lines but credit to Blenheim their goalie made timely saves and they got the extra break in overtime." Slipacoff said

 

Blenheim outshot the Flags 39 - 26.  Brandon Johnson in net for the Flags made 35 saves.  Klinton Kenney earned the win made 23 saves.

 

The team has struggled on the power play as they went zero for six the previous night.  In Sunday's game the Flags scored twice on five opportunities.  Blenheim scored one on four.
 

Currently the Flags are in third place in the standings race with a record of 16-12-2-1. 
 

"Christmas break couldn't have come at a better time." Slipacoff added "We're burnt out and need a recharge."  The Flags are coming off a four game week.

 

The Flags are back in action next year on Saturday Jan 2 when they host the Alvinston Flyers (8-15-1-3).  Game time is set for 7:30 pm at the Moore Recreation Centre.
