Sarnia City plays in the Premier Division of the London & Area Women’s Soccer League and recently concluded their 2015 season; finishing in fine form, a perfect 3-0 for the month of August.

Sarnia City defeated Nairn Falcons 4-0 on the final home game of the year played at Norm Perry Park. Taryn Bernier scored two for Sarnia with singles to Devon Beach and Maria Mitchell. Goalkeeper Heather Ireland registered the shutout.

Sarnia City went on the road for their final two games, handing undefeated London Marconi their first loss of the season 2-1 and then defeating the German-Canadians; the Cup Runner’s-Up, 2-0 the very next night.

Nathalie Harris opened the scoring against Marconi while Ali Gartley scored the game winner dashing Marconi’s hopes for a perfect season.

With only one night’s rest, Sarnia City visited Cove Road field to face a very strong German Canadian squad. For the first 45 minutes the Sarnia City hunkered down and withstood the barrage; it was 0-0 going to the break at halftime. In the second half Sarnia City began to find their legs and expose the German Canadian defense. Ali Gartley capitalized on two opportunities to make it 2-0 and combined with solid goaltending from Heather Ireland this would remain the score at the final whistle.

Within the same club, the Division Three “Academy” has one game remaining as they visit Taxandria this week. The team is optimistically hoping for a league runner up finish and Alayna Bradd is still in the hunt for the top scorer award.

The Division One “Wildcats” are in a race to repeat for the league title. With three games to play they are currently in a tie for 2nd place. They have one home remaining on Friday August 28th, at Norm Perry Park with a 6:30 kick off. Admission is free.
