U17 Sarnia Spirit won the LDYL Indoor Soccer Challenge Indoor Cup in the U18 Soccer Division at BMO Centre in London.

The Sarnia Spirit U17's made it to the final of the U18 playoff challenge cup after defeating Stratford in a penalty shootout the week previously 2 - 1.

On Sunday, the Spirit defeated Byron Blaze 2 - 1 in a thrilling tactical final. Kristy Hodgins led the team to victory scoring both goals. Defensively the team shut down Byron's high offense which had scored more than one hundred goals in 18 league games. Cassidy Edlington was solid in net in the win.

The Spirit now are focusing on the outdoor game which began this week with training Tuesday and Thursday and an exhibition game this Sunday at 1.00 pm versus Mississauga Dixie U18 Team which plays in the OYSL. (Note: The venue for the game is at the Sarnia Girls Soccer Club but may be changed.)

The Sarnia Spirit are playing in the Top Division in Ontario, the OYSL, which begins Saturday, May 9th with a game versus Oshawa and on Sunday, May 10th versus Darlington, last season's U16 Canadian National Champions.

In July, the team is entered in the New York Cup, one of the premier tournaments in the USA. There are over 300 University Coaches at the event.
