Local Team will Compete In Ontario Novice Triples Lawn Bowling Championship

tuesday September 2, 2014

A local team will be competing for a provincial championship when the Sarnia Lawn Bowling Club hosts the Ontario Novice Triples Championship in early September.

The Sarnia team of Mary Winter, lead, Sandy Symes, vice, and Sue MacDonald, skip, recently won the District Playdowns in London for the right to represent the area in the women’s competition at the provincial event.

16 Men’s  and 16 Women’s teams of three from across Ontario (96 bowlers) will meet in Sarnia for two days of intense competition in a sport which requires the perfect combination of accuracy and strategy. Novice bowlers are those who have bowled for less than five years.

The event will be held at the Sarnia Lawn Bowling Club in Germain Park (off Bright Street) the weekend of Sept. 5-7. A welcome reception and practice will take place on Sept. 5, with the official opening ceremonies taking place Sept. 6 at 8 a.m. Competition continues throughout the day on Sept. 6 and 7, and spectators are welcome at no charge.
