The Mammoet Crane
Mammoths opened
defense of their
2013 crown showing
they may well be a
force to be reckoned
with in 2014 as
well. The Mammoths
prevailed in their
initial contest
against the Optimist
Club of Sarnia
Lakeshore Grizzlies
28-8, in a game that
really was closer
than the final score
indicated. The
Mammoths got off to
a flying start as
Joel Card returned
the opening kickoff
80 yards for a
touchdown. The
Grizzlies were not
deterred however,
and culminated their
initial drive with a
9 yard run by
Jackson Smiley
around the left
end. Brother
Avery's conversion
had the Grizzlies up
8-6. Joel Card
scored his second
major of the
contest, this time
on a 92 yard run to
put the Mammoths up
12-8 at the half.
The Mammoths padded
this narrow lead in
the second half on a
4 yard quarterback
sneak by Hunter
Hendrie and a 20
yard pick 6 by
Mitchell Hillsdon.
Justin Cain
successfully
converted both these
majors.
The Mechanical
Contractor's
Association Toros
defeated the Sarnia
Police Association
Tiger Sharks in the
nightcap. The Toro
offense moved
methodically down
the field on many
possessions. The
Tiger Sharks offense
moved the chains
many times as well
on sustained
drives. Matthew
Dunn scampered 69
yards for a
touchdown on the
Toros' first
possession. Dunn
scored again as time
was winding down in
the half on an 8
yard run. Brett
Riley converted both
these touchdowns
with speedy dashes
off the edge. The
Toros counted two
more majors in the
second half on runs
by Jordan Pereira
and Riley. Cole
Rogers was a
standout for the
Tiger Sharks on
offense with many
hard earned yards on
powerful runs.
Dylan Gallant made
several outstanding
open field tackles
on defense.
