The Petrolia Squires winning streak continues
after taking a 5 - 4 win over the Tillsonburg
Thunder on Friday night at home in WOAA Senior AA
hockey league action.
The Thunder took a 2 - 0 lead in the first period
with goals scored by Kevin Galerno and Ryan
Stevenson, but the Squires battled back and tied
late in the period. Scoring the first goal for
the Squires was Chris Wilson assisted by James Edgar
and Shawn Waldie. Chris Edwards added the
second goal with Nathan Ansell and Edgar picking up
the assists.
Action continue in the second and the Thunder
once again took the lead on a power play goal led by
Nathan Peacock at 12:39. As time was winding
down the Squires found themselves on the power play
and with :08 seconds left on the clock Norm Leger
found the opening and scored to end the period tied
at three all. James Edgar earned his third
assist of the night on the play and Jeremiah
Goodacre also picked up a point with an assist.
In the third Kraig Wright scored at 4:51 to give
the Squries the lead for the first time in the game
with Andrew Sokol and Dan Venema assisting. That
lead was short lived just over a minute later when
Jason Skinner scored a short handed goal for the
Thunder to tie things up once again. But another
shorthanded goal this time by the Squires Zac
Macnaght who picked the puck up at the blue line and
skated in and scored unassisted. The Squires
held on to take their 4th win of the season.
Tillsonburg outshot Petrolia 43 - 35.
Chris Houle earned the win in net for the Squires
made 39 saves. Cody Vinnal made 30 saves for
Tillsonburg.
The Squires are back in action tonight (Sat Oct
25) when they travel to Tavistock to take on the
Royals. This game will be an exciting one as
both teams are undefeated with a record of 4 - 0 and
share first place. Game time 7:00 pm.
