The Petrolia Squires were
back in action in WOAA
Senior AA hockey league on
Friday night when they
hosted and defeated the
Clinton Radars by a score of
6 - 4.
James Edgar gave the Squires
the lead five minutes into
the opening period with Rory
Keane assisting. The
Radars Andrew VanVliet tied
the game with 4:43 remaining
in the period.
In the second the Squires
scored two unanswered goals
with the first at 2:33 on
the power play by Shawn
Waldie from Jeremiah
Goodacre and Kraig Wright.
Late in the period Kraig
Wright gave the Squries the
3-1 lead assisted by Zac
Macnaught and Dan Veenema.
Another early period power
play goal widened the
Squires lead with James
Edgar scoring and Nathan
Ansell and Waldie assisting.
Andrew VanVliet added his
second goal for the Radars
at 6:05 but just :31 seconds
later Jeremiah Goodacre
recaptured that goal and the
Squires continue to lead 5 -
2. Late into the
period Petrolia suffered
penalties that were costly
as the Radar scored two back
to back power play goals
that narrowed the score to
5-4. Tyler Elligsen
and Mike Gillen scored for
the Radars. However less
than a minute later Dan
Veenema scored to widen the
lead and the Squires held on
to take the win. Shawn
Waldie earned his 4th point
of the game assisting on the
play and Norm Leger also
picked up a point on the
final goal.
Clinton outshot the Squires
53 - 36. Brandon
Campbell earned the win for
the Squires in net making 49
saves. Ben Thomas of
Clinton made 30 saves.
The Squires are currently
undefeated with a record of
3 - 0. The team looks
to continue the streak next
week when they host
Tillsonburg on Friday
October 24 at the Greenwood
Recreation Centre in
Petrolia. Game time
8:00 pm.
