The Petrolia Squires opened
their 2014-2015 WOAA Senior
AA hockey season season with
two wins on the weekend.
In their home opener last
Friday they defeated
Milverton 6 - 2 (highlights)
and on Saturday they
traveled to Seaforth and
defeated the
Huron East Centenaires with
a final score of 6 - 1.
Travelling with just twelve
skaters and two goalies the
Squires took control of the
game in the first period
scoring four goals then
added singles in the second
and third.
Brad Barton scored the first
goal at 6:26 assisted by
Shawn Waldie and Breydan
Beland. Twenty-two
seconds later Nathan Ansell
scored what turned out to be
the game winner with Chris
Edwards and Zac Macnaught
earning the assist.
Macnaught from Shawn Waldie
scored the third goal and
the final goal was scored by
Waldie on the power play
with Mike Bush earning the
assisted.
The final two goals were
scored by Chris Edwards from
Scott Campbell and the final
goal in the third assisted
by Campbell and Zac
Macnaught.
Huron's lone goal came in
the third period by Ian
Murray assisted by Jacob
Piskow.
The Squires outshot the
Centenaires 48 - 32.
Petrolia's netminder Matt
Slotwinski earned the win
making 31 saves, Rich
Wigmore took the loss made
42 saves.
The Squires has one game
schedule for the upcoming
weekend when they host the
Clinton Radars on Friday
October 17. Game
begins at 8:00pm at the
Greenwood Recreation Centre.
