tuesday november 25, 2014
The Lambton Minor Atom AAA team
sponsored by the Sarnia Sting
split a pair of games over the
weekend in Alliance hockey
league action.
In their first
game on Saturday the Jr. Sting
took a 4 - 2 win at home against
the Windsor Jr. Spitfires.
“Good all-around effort by the
team," Head Coach Cory Pageau
said "They jumped out to
an early lead and played smart,
hard, hockey the rest of the
way."
Jaxon Priddle led the Jr. Sting
scoring 2 goals with singles by
Tanner Winegard and Garrett
Pearce.
Earning assists
on the goals were Cameron
McCarthy with 2 and Tanner
Winegard, Nolan Mumford, Aaron
Shanks, Ryan Vidler, Isaac
Oliphant and Lucas Gaspari
earning singles.
Carter La Rocque
earned the win in net and was
name as one of three hardest
worker award recipients.
Other two players earning the
award in the game were Jaxon
Priddle and Aaron Shanks.
"Solid net minding from La
Rocque coupled with a better
defensive awareness, led to the
win.” Pageau said.
In the second
game on the weekend the team
played a strong game but came up
short with 3 - 2 loss in
Waterloo. Waterloo is 2nd
in the East Division with a
record of 11-3-2.
"Waterloo is one of the premier
teams in the league and we
showed we can play with
anybody." Pageau said
Jaxon Priddle and
Adam Osler scored for the Jr.
Sting with Isaac Oliphant and
Tanner Winegard assisting on the
goals.
Caiden Smith took the loss in
net.
"Smit kept us in
the game but we could not
capitalize enough." Pageau said
Smit also earned
the Hardest worker award along
with Ryan Pageau and Landon
Buckingham.
"We suffered a 13
– 1 defeat to them (Waterloo)
earlier in the year, so we have
closed the gap considerably and
will be looking to continue to
raise the bar the rest of the
season.”
The Minor Atoms are now in 4th
spot in the West Division with a
record of 5-10. Next up
for the Jr. Sting is an away
game against Elgin Middlesex on
Saturday.
