It was a bit of a nail biter at
the end as the Legionnaires had
a 5 - 1 lead heading into
the third and the Strathroy
Rockets game back and score
three in the final period. The
Legionnaires held on and took
the win with a final score of
5-4.
Sarnia's Ryan Vendramin started
things off at 8:28 in the first
when he skated in behind and
picked up the loose puck that
got away from Brandon Layman and
put it in the side of the net.
Second goal was scored when the
puck was passed back to Kyler
Keating and he blasted it in
from the blueline.
In the Second period Strathroy
added their first at 4:40 then
starting at 9:49 the
Legionnaires added 3 goals in
just under two minutes.
Cody Trowell, Brandon Layman and
Brad Campbell each scored.
Third period it was all Rockets
adding 3 goals, two power play
and one unassisted by Sturart
King, Eddie Schulz and Nick
Griffin.
Even with their netminder out of
the net the Rockets couldn't tie
things up and the Legionnaires
came up with the much needed
win.
Legionnaires outshot the Rockets
30 - 27. Hunter Johnson
earned the win in net for the
Legionnaires making 23 saves.
Mat Ouellett and Dane Gubbels
shared the duties in the loss
for the Rockets.
Sarnia went scoreless on two
power play opportunities,
Strathroy went two for five.
In the standings race the
Legionnaires (17-6-0) remains in
second spot as the first place
Leamington Flyers (18-5-0)
defeated St. Thomas 4-1 last
night. Chatham (15-6-1)
is in third place 3 points
behind Sarnia. Sarnia has one
game in hand.
With the standings race so close
the next couple of games will
put the Legionnaires to test as
they travel to Leamington on
Sunday for a 4:10 puck drop then
return home next Thursday (Nov
27) to face Chatham at 7:10 at
the Sarnia Arena.
