Thirty-five swimmers from the
Sarnia Y Rapids 1 Swim Team
participated in a swim meet
through the St. Clair Erie
Aquatic League (SEAL) in
Leamington on November 9, where
team members Shona Branton, 12,
Trevor Kozak, 6, and Trevor
Marut, 7, each finished first in
at least one race. Shona’s win
came in the Mixed 100m
breaststroke. Trevor Kozak’s was
in the 25m butterfly, while
Trevor Marut won twice, in the
25m breaststroke and
freestyle.
Teammates placing in the Top 3 included:
Lauren Armstrong, 7 (2nd
in the 25m breaststroke and 3rd
in the 25m butterfly); Kate
Bedard, also 7 (2nd
in the 25m freestyle and 3rd
in the 25m breaststroke); Jack
Biggar, 12 (2nd in
the 100m freestyle); and Allie
Rawson, 9, (2nd in
the 100m Individual Medley, or
IM, and 3rd in the
50m freestyle).
Earning ribbons (up to 6th
place) were:
Braedan Babenko, 9 (4th
in the 25m breaststroke); Ciara
Brown, 12 (5th in the
100m IM and breaststroke and 6th
in the 100m backstroke); Gregory
Dietrich, 12 (4th in
the 100m breaststroke and 6th
in the 100m freestyle); Erin
Lacey, also 12 (4th
in the Mixed 100m backstroke);
Nadine Osmon, 13 (4th
in the 50m butterfly, 5th
in the 100m backstroke and 6th
in the 100m freestyle); Kaiden
Rawson, 12 (4th in
the 50m butterfly, 5th
in the 100m IM and freestyle and
6th in the 100m
breaststroke); Annabelle Rayson,
9 (6th in the 25m
backstroke); and Gabrion Tulang
9 (6th in the 50m
freestyle).
Top 10 finishers included:
Carter Brush, 9; Josie Gilpin,
7, who also improved her
previous personal best time (PBT)
in the 25m freestyle by more
than 15 seconds; sisters Alyse,
9, and Laurel, 7, Jessup; Isaac
Jones, 9, who also improved his
PBTs by as much as 25 seconds;
brothers Travis, 8, and Zakk,
10, Kozak; Taylor Marut, 10; Nik
Mukherjee, 11; and Nes Tulang,
13.
Significant improvements in PBTs were achieved by Ayrianna Batson, 11, in
three of her events; Vanessa
Dyck, 9, in each of her
individual events; Rylynn Haney,
13, in two of her races; Peter
Valdellon, 10, with almost 25
seconds off his previous time in
the 50m butterfly; and Isabella
Wright, 8. Cameron Dew, 12,
Samuel Dietrich, 11, Devan Dyck,
10, Tyler Murphy, 10, and Ella
Savage, 10, also participated.
The Sarnia Y Rapids 1 swimmers are coached by Sue Athanasopoulos. This
group’s next SEAL meet is in
Leamington on December 7.
