Corunna Giants Midgets Came From Behind To take Win Over Dresden

In Western Counties Baseball league action Tuesday the Corunna Giants came from behind and took a 8 - 6 win over Dresden.

Kyle Smith, in relief of Keenan Smith and Jamie Devereaux, picked up the win. He pitched 1.2 innings allowing 0 hits, walked one and struck out 3 (all in the top of the 6th inning).

Corunna only allowed 3 hits all game but 9 walks and 5 errors allowed Dresden to jump out to 5 – 3 lead after 4 innings. Corunna gave up another run in the 5th inning on 2 walks and 2 errors to give Dresden a 6 – 3 lead going into the bottom of the 5th.

The first two batters popped out to the catcher but with two out Corunna scored 5 runs. Three straight walks and a pass ball gave Corunna 1 run then Jordan Pavey hit a two run double to tie the game. Zach Sutherland walked and Mark McLachlin then hit a 3 – 2 pitch off the fence in right field for a two run triple to give Corunna an 8 – 6 lead. In the top of the 6th inning Kyle Smith struck out the side to preserve the win for the Giants.

The game called after six innings due to darkness.

Corunna’s record now stands at 2 and 2. Their next game is Monday night in Corunna vs Wallaceburg. Their doubleheader in LaSalle on Saturday is cancelled as LaSalle is unable to field a team. It will be rescheduled at a later date.
