Sarnia Lawn Bowling Club Getting Ready for New Season

friday may 2, 2014

When the snow finally melts and a warm sun shines on green grass, it’s time to get outside and try an inexpensive summer activity that is fun for the whole family.

Lawn bowling provides gentle, healthy exercise and competition in a relaxed social atmosphere. The Sarnia Lawn Bowling Club would like to introduce you to this challenging, yet not too strenuous, sport that men and women can play together on an equal basis.

All you need is some flat soled shoes and the desire to come out and have some fun! Bowls are supplied for beginners.

The new lawn bowling season begins in mid-May, and newcomers will be given the opportunity to try the game for free at a series of Open Houses planned by the club.

The Sarnia Lawn Bowling Club is located in Germain Park off Bright Street (adjacent to the ball and soccer fields). Open houses are scheduled for May 14 and 15, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., as well as May 16 and 18, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Club members will be there to welcome you, introduce you to the game, and answer your questions.

Bowling season runs from May to September. The regular weekly schedule includes mixed social games on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, plus ladies or men’s bowling on Mondays. Members may choose to bowl socially or try their hand at more competitive games in various tournaments.

If you are interested in giving lawn bowling a try, contact Dave Moffitt at 519-869-2501, or Ron Thurier, 519-542-3988, or just drop by the club during the Open Houses.

Get out of the house and go green!
