Marut Earns Trophy at End of Season Swim Meet

Nine-year-old Taylor Marut of the Sarnia Y Rapids I swim team earned a trophy for being third overall among 8- and 9-year-old girls, at the St. Clair Erie Aquatic League (SEAL) end-of-season championship swim meet April 26-27. She finished 2nd in the 100m Individual Medley (IM) and 25m breaststroke, 3rd in the 50m freestyle, 4th in the 25m backstroke and 5th in the 25m breaststroke. Teammates also earning Top 3 finishes were fellow nine-year-old Jack Girardi, who came 3rd in the 100m IM and added 6th place finishes in the 25m breaststroke and 50m freestyle, and Kaiden Rawson, 12, with 2nd place in the 50m breaststroke and 100m freestyle and 3rd in the 100m IM. He also earned 4th place in the 50m butterfly and backstroke events.

Kate Bedard, 6, earned a ribbon in the 25m backstroke among the 7-and-under girls, taking 5 seconds off her personal best time (PBT) in her 6th place finish. Twelve-year-old Jack Biggar finished 4th in the 100m breaststroke. Dylan Cloud, 13, placed 6th in the 50m butterfly and finished in the Top 10 in each of his individual events. Rachel Dalton and Hannah Lacey, both 14, each earned a 5th place finish in the 14-and-older girls group, with Rachelís coming in the 100m breaststroke, and Hannahís in the 100m freestyle.

Six-year-old Lauren Armstrong shaved time off her PBTs in three events, while Daisy Jenkins, 7, finished in the Top 10 twice.

Travis Kozak, 8, bested his fastest times to date in two events, while 9-year-old Sarah Phipps took time off her PBTs in four swims. Allie Rawson, also 9, finished in the Top 10 in two events, and beat three of her PBTs. Fellow 9-year-old Ella Savage also bested her fastest times in three events, while Gabrion Tulang, also 9, did so in two.

In the 10- and 11-year-old group, Ayrianna Batson, 10, improved her PBTs in three events, while McKenna Brown and Olivia Conroy, also 10, each bested two of theirs and Evelyn Chambers, 11, beat four of hers. Sean Foster, 10, took more than 7 seconds off his previous best time in the 100m IM while Nik Mukherjee, also 10, beat his previous time in the 100m freestyle by 11 seconds. Zakk Kozak, 10, and Erin Lacey, 11, each shaved time off four of their PBTs. Peter Valdellon, 10, sliced more than 10 seconds from his fastest previous time in the 50m breaststroke.

Among the 12- and 13-year old girls, Samantha Bedard, 12, bested her fastest times in each of her individual swims, while fellow 12-year-olds Diane Clarke and Faith Jamieson each improved two of their PBTs. Nadine Osmon, 12, finished in the Top 10 in the 50m butterfly.

Also swimming were Braedon Babenko, 8, Caelan Babenko, 10, Ciara Brown, 12, Gregory Dietrich, 12, Sean Phipps, 11, Annabelle Rayson, 8, and Isabella Wright, 8.

In total, 35 Sarnia Y Rapids 1 swimmers participated. They are coached by Sue Athanasopoulos.
