The first annual Rogers TV Cup Championship youth bowling recently took place at Bowlerama in Barrie. The tournament consisted of ninety bowlers, from Ontario and Quebec, making up eighteen teams based on their averages. This event supported youth bowlers through scholarship awards for post secondary education.
The tournament was played in the Baker format with the five bowlers on each team rolling two frames (not consecutively) per game and different frames for each game. Each team tossed eighteen qualifying games and the top eight teams advanced to the playoffs.
After eight playoff games, four teams were eliminated leaving the remaining four teams to enter into four games of match play televised competition.
Local bowlers Rachel McGrath and Jordan Croskery participated in the event and ended up in position to receive scholarship funds. McGrath, second from the right, was a member of the “Pin Strikers” team that finished in 3rd place. Croskery was a member of the “Pin Busters” team that ended up in 7th position. The coaches of the teams were present or past bowlers of Team Canada. The winning team, “Hambone Hi-Rollers“was coached by Team Canada member Melissa Legault of Sarnia.
