Sarnia Sting 2013-14 Season Ends

The Sarnia Sting 2013 - 14 OHL season ended last night in Erie with an 8 - 4 loss against the Otters.

 

After forty minutes of play the two sides were tied at 4 - 4. In the third Erie went ahead and scored 4 unanswered goals to take the win.

 

Nick Latta scored 2 goals for the Sting and Nikita Koroslelev added one andd Nikolay Goldobin scored on a penalty shot.

 

For Erie Brendan Gaunce, Michael Curtis and Andrew Burakovsky each scored two goals apiece.  Dane Fox and Connor McDavid scored singles.

 

Erie outshot Sarnia 48 - 21.  Taylor Dupuis went the distance for the Sting in net turning away 41 shots.  Devin Williams and Oscard Dansk shared the goaltending duties for the Otters.  Williams made 9 saves on 10 shots, Dansk made 8 on 11 shots.

 

The Sting had five power play opportunities and scored on one.  Erie went zero on two chances.

 

Saturday was Anthony DeAngelo's first game back after a two game suspension for an abuse of an official.  Early in the third period he was back in the dressing room after taking another game misconduct for abusing an official.

 

Sarnia finished the season with a final record of 17-44-2-5.

This game was the final OHL game for overagers captain Nick Latta and Jimmy McDowell.  Latta finished the year with 38 goals and 28 assists for 66 points.  McDowell had 13 goals and 24 assists for 37 points.

Latta will be travelling to Hartford Monday to join the New York Rangers American Hockey League affiliate.
