INDIANS WIN ON THE ROAD

The Alvinston Indians traveled to Glanworth on Wednesday evening for a matchup with the Gators.

In the opening inning, Alvinston was able to jump out to an early lead. Craig Lyons walked to lead off the game, was sacrificed to second by his brother Steve Lyons, advanced to third on a Jeff Lyons groundout, and then Craig Lyons scored on an RBI two-out single by Aaron Stocking.  Stocking then stole second base, and Chapman walked to put runners on first and second.  Eric Hyatt then came to the dish and singled to plate Stocking, for a 2-0 Alvinston lead.

Indians starter Kyle Crawford zoomed through the opening two innings, while Alvinston added one more run in their half of the second inning.  Cole Pavey was hit by a pitch, Kyle Crawford singled, and then Craig Lyons reached via an error to load the bases.  Steve Lyons had an RBI grounout to plate Pavey for the Indians third run.

In the third inning, Derek Stafford hit a double for Glanworth to challenge Crawford, but he struckout the next two batters to end the threat.  In the fourth however, Carl Boughner lead off the inning with a single, and would eventually score on an Alvinston error.  Ryan Hiepleh then singled with two out to score Randy Gray for the get-close-run, in what was now a 3-2 contest in favour of Alvinston.

In the sixth inning, Jeff Lyons doubled to lead off the inning, and scored on an RBI single by Chapman, to put the Indians in front 4-2.  Crawford would shut things down the rest of the way for Alvinston, and then Craig Lyons hit a solo homerun in the seventh, to seal the 5-2 victory for Alvinston.

Crawford was the winning pitcher for the Indians, tossing all seven innings, with 11 strikeouts, 3 hits, 1 base on balls, and 1 hit batsman.  He allowed two runs, but only one run was earned.

Stocking, Craig Lyons, Hyatt and Crawford had two hits a piece for Alvinston in the victory, pushing the team's record to 19-1 on the season.
Next up for the Indians is a return matchup with the Gators tonight night (July 24) in Alvinston, beginning at 8pm
