Lady Sting Midget A Take Two

Tuesday december 2, 2014

The Sarnia Lady Sting Midget A team travelled to Woodstock on Saturday, attempting to redeem themselves after a 3-0 loss to the Wildcats recently.

Sarnia had a good start and put the Wildcats on their heels early in the game. The Lady Sting had some early chances, but was not rewarded on the scoreboard in the 1st period.

The Lady Sting continued to work hard and out chanced the Wildcats in the 2nd period, and was finally rewarded with a goal with less than a minute to go. The goal was scored by Suzanne Lockhart , assisted by Aleah Boersma who took the initial shot from the point, after a nice face-off win by Naomi Parsons.

In the 3rd period Sarnia had several chances to increase the lead, including a breakaway by Lauren Wilson which was turned away by the Wildcats goalie.

Brooke Kirkland had a strong game in net for the Sting, turning away all shots from the Wildcats and grabbing the 1 - 0 shut-out and securing the win. With the win the Lady Sting moved 2 points ahead of the wildcats in the LLFHL standings.

On Sunday the Sarnia Lady Sting Midget A team hosted the Stratford Aces for the first time this season.

During the first period of play, both teams seemed to be a little cautious as they were unfamiliar with each other’s play. In the 2nd period the Lady Sting would pick up the pace and strike with the game’s first goal. The goal was scored by Lauren Wilson, on a rebound from a shot off the crossbar by Sydney McDonald, and assisted by Samantha Villanueva. The Lady Sting would strike again before the period would end, on a solo effort by Naomi Parsons to take a 2-0 lead.

In the 3rd period the Lady Sting would open up a 3-0 lead on a goal by Suzanne Lockhart assisted by Naomi Parsons and Samantha Villanueva.

The Aces would make a game of the contest by adding to quick goals in 20 seconds to close the gap to 3-2. The Aces would put the pressure on the Lady Sting attempting to tie the game, but were denied by the Sting Goalie Ashley Norland.

The Lady Sting would secure the win (4-2) with an empty net goal scored by Naomi Parsons, assisted by Lauren Wilson and Riley Getty.

The Lady Sting Play 3 home games next weekend, starting with the London Devilettes on Friday and Kitchener Saturday night at Clearwater Arena with both games beginning at 7 pm.  On Sunday they are at the RBC Centre for a 4:00 pm game against Woodstock.
