Mooretown Minor Hockey and Mooretown Flags Celebrate Name Change
sunday december 14, 2014

An official group
photo that included Minor Hockey
players and Jr. C players and
supporting staff was taken
Saturday December 13 prior to
the Flags game to celebrate the
renaming of the Mooretown Minor
Hockey formally known as the
Storm to Mooretown Jr. Flags.
The official photo will hang at
the Mooretown Sports Complex.
"It’s been talked
about for a number of years
now," Mooretown Minor Hockey
President Andrew
Vandersteen said
about the renaming to Jr. Flags
"It brings the community closer
together."
Vandersteen feels
that the young players will be
more involved with having the
big M on their jersey just like
the older Jr. C team.
"The kids really
look up to these guys and I love
seeing the kids when they come
to the Flags games with their
jerseys on banging on the glass
and cheering for the team."
Vandersteen said
Mooretown is
following other Minor Hockey
Centres adapting their Jr. C
names such as Dresden Jr. Kings,
Wallaceburg Minor Lakers and
Belle River Jr. Canadiens.
"I have been
getting a lot of positive
feedback from other centres that
teams have traveled to. They
love the style the name and the
colour." Vandersteen said
The Mooretown
Minor hockey colours were black
and yellow but now are red,
black and white
