Petrolia Squires take Second Win on Weekend

Monday December 1, 2014

The Petrolia Squires went 2 - 0 over the weekend with their first win at home Friday night against Huron East Centenaires 6 - 3 (highlights) and on
Saturday they travelled to Milverton and won 7 - 5 against the 4-Wheel Drives.

On paper it didn't look pretty as all 5 Milverton goals were power play goals and three of the Squires goals were scored on the power play.

Milverton had a 3 - 2 lead in the first period but the Squires bounced back and outscored Milverton 3 - 1 in the second to head into the third period leading with a score of 5 - 4.  In the third the Squires managed to hold onto the lead scoring 2 and Milverton scored 1.

Both sides had their share of penalties.  Petrolia took 24 minutes on 13 infractions including a game misconduct and Milverton took 28 minutes on 14 infractions also with a game misconduct.

Norm Leger led the Squires scoring a hat trick.  Jeff Paully added 2 and singles by Zac Macnaught and Chris Edwards.

Mike Terrian and Dennis Dewar each scored 2 goals for Milverton and Kent Merriam added a single.

Petrolia record is 8-3-0-1 for 17 points for second place in the standings race just 1 point behind Tavistock. Following close on their heals is Tillsonburg with 16 points and 2 games back with a record of 8-2-0-0 and Clinton also with 16 points with a record of 7-3-0-2.

Coming up the Squires will host Tillsonburg on Friday Dec 5 at 8:00 pm, they need the win to remain in second.
