Sarnia Spirit U11 Ends Season With a Trip to Bowling Green

The Sarnia Spirit U11 Soccer Club competed in the Bowling Green Fall Soccer Challenge this past weekend. The local girls played in the Girls U12 Green Division, which consisted of 2 groups of 3 teams.

In their early morning opening match, the team was well prepared to challenge the Archbold Bluestreaks. Archbold would fight to the end, but were no match for the Spirit. Sarnia would win this game 6-1. Leading the scoring was the "Icelandic Princess" Bridget Kristjansson with 3 goals. Also scoring was Caitlynn Frew, Hannah McCann, and Ava Frankland. Unfortunately Lauryn Foss's tournament was over due to a knee injury.

In the afternoon match, the Spirit faced a strong Greater Toledo FC Select team. Sarnia would dominate much of the match, and were rewarded with a 1-nil win. Scoring was Bridget Kristjansson, while Madeleine Godfrey earned the shutout.

Sunday morning, the Sarnia footballers played the AAFC Patriots to 0-0 draw. Already earning a birth to the finals, the 1 point obtained would make the Spirit, undefeated in Group play.

The Spirit would play  Riverdale United, in the U12 Green Division Final. On a HOT afternoon, the action was fast and furious, with Sarnia having many scoring opportunities. A questionable corner kick allowed Riverdale a chance, with less than a minute to play. Madeleine Godfrey stopped the ball, but the rebound would bounce up and over her out reached hands, and drop over the goal line. Only seconds later the final whistle would blow. Riverdale 1, Sarnia 0.

A team function was held at the hotel, were "Appreciation, & Recognition " where awarded to the Coaching Staff, Manager, players and the parents.

This concludes the Sarnia Spirit U11 season.
