Corunna Giants Finalists in OBA Midget C Tournament

In the final
day of the OBA Midget C Baseball
Tournament hosted by the Corunna
Giants, the Giants earned their
way to finals but were knocked
out by the Essex Majors in the
final game.
After going 1
- 1 on Saturday with a 11 - 0
win over Innisfil and taking a
12 - 0 loss against the Essex
Majors, the Giants found
themselves facing Essex for the
second time in the tournament on
Sunday.
In the first game on Sunday the
Giants took a 2 - 0 win over the
Majors. Jeremy Devereaux went
the distance on the mound and
allowed three hits, walked one
allowed no runs and struck out
four. It wasn't until the
top of the fourth inning when
the Giants scored two runs to
take the lead and eventual win.
In the fourth,
Joe Stock hit a single to
advance to first base then later
stole second. Keenan Smith
singled to right field brought
Stock home. Smith worked
his way around the bases on a
sacrificed fly by Mark McLachlin
and a single by Nolan Nicholson.
Lauchie MacDonald brought Smith
home on a single to center
field.
Both teams
recorded one loss apiece and
with the tournament double
knockout ruling the two teams
had to face each other one more
time to decide the Championship.
In the final
game the Giants came up short
and suffered a 7 - 0 loss.
Essex scored four runs in the
third then added two in the
fifth and one more in the sixth.
Keenan Smith went five innings
on the mound for Corunna
allowing six runs walked three
and struck out three.
Brett Farr pitched for one
inning and allowed one hit, one
run and struck out two.
The was the
final game of the season for the
Corunna Giants. Corunna
played in two leagues with a
record of 10-7-1 in the Sun
Parlour league and a record of
10-6 in Western Counties.
