The Sarnia Jr. Sting Novice MD Tier 1, kicked off their regular season with an exciting 5 – 4 victory over the Defending Champion West London Hawks, at Clearwater Arena on Saturday.
The Sting fell behind early trailing 3 – 0 after the 1st period, however, winning goalie Caiden Smit steadied the ship for the Sting with some game saving saves over the next two periods. Adam Osler got the Sting on the board with assists from Landon Buckingham and Quinn James. Wil Vandenboom then scored on a breakaway to narrow the gap to 1. West London replied to take a 4-2 lead before the Sting turned it on with 3 unanswered goals.
Trent Loxton scored with 13 seconds left in the second to get the Sting within 1. Wil Vandenboom scored his second of the game, from Ryan Vidler to tie the game. Ryan Vidler then scored the game winning goal with 2 minutes remaining to cap off the comeback.
Sarnia’s next games are Saturday at noon versus the Oakridge Areos at Clearwater Arena and Sunday versus the Stratford Warriors at 4:00 PM at Sarnia Arena.
