sunday september 8, 2013

L - R General Manager Tom Norris, Jeff Schroeter, Sam McCormack

The Mooretown Flags announced on Saturday the signing of Veteran forward Jeff Schroeter and 16 year old defenceman Sam McCormack to their 2013-14 line up.

"I'm really glad Jeff is coming back." Head coach Jordan Pennesi said  "I think Schroeter can be a dominant force in our league this year. He's got size and he's got smarts"

Schroeter is returning for his third year with the Flags.  In his first two years in regular season and playoffs he has scored a total of 56 goals and 73 assists.  Schroeter was named the 2011-12 Great Lakes Junior C Hockey League MVP.

"Glad to be back" Schroeter said "We have a lot of new guys this year and a good squad going. We have always had a good squad and this year is going to be even better."

 Coach Jordan Pennesi

16 year old defenceman Sam McCormack played with the Lambton Jr. Sting AAA Minor Midget last season and scored 6 goals and 13 assists.

"It's a pretty big honour being the only 16 year old as part of this team." McCormack said  "I heard nothing but great things about the team I can't wait to get started."

Pennesi said the following about his youngest player.

"I watched him a couple of times last year and watched him through the Legionnaires camp and I took a liking to him right away.  I watched him at practice and started liking him even more and more. He makes up for his lack of size for his smarts and he's very very patient with the puck. I think he is going to make some of our old players better. Every coach loves a guy with patience."

The Flags have yet to determine a player to wear the "C" and are going with four assistant captains to start the season. The four players include Adam Hayes, Jeff Schroeter, Dan Lumley and McGregor Hadden.

The Flags will be finalizing their roster this week as they prepare for their first game of the season. Mooretown's season opener is set for Friday September 13 in Dresden at 7:30 pm.  then return home for their home opener against Wallaceburg on Saturday September 14 with a puck drop at 7:30 pm.
