Mooretown Lost in Shoot Out in Final Exhibition Game

In Great Lakes Jr C Hockey Exhibition the Mooretown Flags lost to the Wallaceburg Lakers in their final preseason game in Mooretown with a final score of 4 - 3.

 

The Flags took a 3 - 0 lead in the first period with Ryan Lyle scoring the first goal at 4:42 then followed by two back to back power play goals at 8:24 and 10:16 with Brett Podgorski and Brandon Layman scoring.

 

The Lakers narrowed the Flags lead to one after they added a pair in the second.  Rob Danyo scored the first goal and Mike Brown scored the second on the power play.

 

Power plays played a factor as the Lakers tied the game in the third period at 10:42 on the power play by Lucais Meyskens.

 

After an overtime period and no winner was decided the two sides went to a shootout where the Lakers came out on top after the eleventh shooter Justin Lindsay scored the lone goal to give the Lakers the win.

 

Mooretown net was shared by Steven Taylor and Scott Gray.  Taylor made 14 saves on 16 shots and Gray made 17 on 18 shots.

 

Wes Hughson shared the net with Joel Sowinski for Wallaceburg.  In the first period Hughson made 9 saves on 12 shots and was replaced by Joel Sowinski in the second with 25 saves and no goals allowed.

 

Mooretown went 2 for 9 power play opportunities, Wallaceburg went 2 for 6.

 

The Flags went 1-1-1 in exhibition.

 

Mooretown season opener is set for Friday September 13 in Dresden at 7:30 pm.  The Flags return home for their home opener against Wallaceburg on Saturday September 14 with a puck drop at 7:30 pm.

 

Wallaceburg first game of the season is in Essex on Tuesday September 10, then home on September 11 against Dresden before coming to Mooretown on the 14th.
