Petrolia Squires Senior AA Failed to Come Back

The Squires are now 2 - 3 in the first month of action in the WOAA Senior AA Hockey League after suffering their third loss Friday night against the Tillsonburg Thunder with a final score of 5 - 3.

Tillsonburg went up 2 - 0 after the first period of play then early in the second scored a shorthanded goal to go up 3 - 0.

Chris Wilson put the Squires on the scoreboard less than two minutes later, but later in the period the Thunder scored a power play goal to widened the lead.  Squires continue to fight back and with two quick goals the first by Tyler Lewis and then Wilson with his second the second period ended with the Thunder leading 4 - 3.

Third period action saw the score remaining the same and in the final minutes the Squires pulled their goalie to give them the extra man attack only to have the Thunder score into the empty net with :20 seconds remaining to secure the win.

Scoring for Tillsonburg were Kevin Galerno (2), Adam Vandepoele, Chris McGuffin and Brad Jones.

Tillsonburg outshot the Squires 47 - 36.  Ben Thomas earned the win in net with 33 saves.  Brandon Campbell took the loss made 42 saves.

The Squires are back in action on Friday November 1 when they host the Milverton 4 Wheel Drive at the Greenwood Recreation Centre in Petrolia.  Game time 8:00 pm.
