The Ladies junior girls soccer finals took place at Northern Collegiate on Tuesday with the undefeated Northern Vikings (5-0) defeating LCCVI Lancers by a score of 4 - 1.  The Lancers took second spot in the standings race heading into the final with 4 wins (1OT win) and 1 loss.

In the regular season Northern defeated LCCVI 3 - 0.

#11 Natasha Curran scoring for LCCVI

In the final first half Cameron George scored the first goal for Northern after a high kick that just went over the keepers outstretched hands.  LCCVI tied it up after LCCVI was awarded a penalty kick. The Northern keeper made the save but the defenders didn't clear the ball and in a scramble in front Natasha Curran was able to kick it in to even the score. The half ended with the game tied at 1 - 1.

"I was worried after the first half because we were just booting the ball and not bother passing to each other." Northern Head Coach Julie Jarvis said

"We usually are a good passing game but they settled in the second half and they just decided they wanted it and we took off from there."

#10 Vanessa Wardell scoring game winning goal.

Fifteen minutes into the second half Northern regained the lead after the ball was crossed out front by Kristy Hodgins to Vanessa Wardell who  patiently went in with a left foot tapped in to score.

After the second Northern goal it raised the Vikings confidence and the momentum changed with Northern controlling most of the play for the remainder of the game and the Vikings went on and scored two more goals.

The third goal Northern cut the ball back and passed it our front to Wardell who kicked it in for her second goal of the game.  Kelly Hodgins finished it off with a low on the ground kick from top of the box.

"They were stronger and we hung in there." LCCVI Head Coach Corey Vanveller said "I thought we played well in the first half but we were hanging on for most of the game and they were the superior team today."

Taelor Koundakjian earned the win in net for Northern.

Despite the loss LCCVI netminder Marisa Mueller who has never played organized soccer before made several key and outstanding saves throughout the game.

"Both goalies I thought played really well." Jarvis said  "Their goalie hasn't played soccer before, she did awesome."
