SMAA Football Atoms & Peewee Battle it out at Norm Perry Park

Games at Norm Perry Park on Saturday began with a pair of Atom games. 

On the West Field, the Cupe Local 1238 Razor Claws and the Lanxess Shock Wave traded touchdowns in the first half with the Claws scoring first and last to take an 18-12 halftime lead.  Perry Moffatt opened the scoring on a 35 yard run.  Tyler Kerby counted a pair of majors on runs of 1 yard and 5 yards for the Shock Wave.  Tyler Hopwood had a strong game for the victors scoring first half touchdowns on two runs of 16 yards. 

In the second half the Razor Claw's attack continued with three different players taking it to the house.    Touchdowns were scored by Reilly Dumond, Moffatt and Howard.  James Myers sprinted to the corner from 7 yards out foe the Wave. 

The steadily improving Planet Stitch Inferno rode a tenacious defense to victory, shutting out the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 62 Iron Hides 18-0.  Matthew McCabe scored a pair of first half touchdowns on runs of 1 and 11 yards.  Quarterback Joshua Graham crossed the goal line on a 1 yard quarterback sneak in the second half.  Gage Klyne gained set up these majors with hard running between the tackles.

In the PeeWee Division a battle for second place took place between the Cupe Local 1238 Avengers and the Purdy Fisheries Storm  These teams battled to a scoreless halftime draw.  In the third quarter a 20 yard touchdown run by Lucas Clubb was all the scoring the Avengers needed on route to a hard fought 6-0 victory. 

In the finale, the Optimist Club of Sarnia Lakeshore Vortex came out strong against the Rob Simrak Magic Realty Sky Fire.  The Vortex drove down the field and took an 8-0 lead on a touchdown by Colton Shepherd and a convert from Matthew Gouveia.  From then on it was all Sky Fire as two majors were counted by Isaac Kidd and individual touchdowns by Avery Smiley and Brady Gladwish.  Smiley converted on three of these scores for a 30-8 Sky Fire victory.
