wednesday november 13, 2013

The Sarnia FC - U12 Indoor Boy's team travelled to London for their second weekend double header of the season. The team had split their first two games earlier in the season and were ready for more soccer action.

Sarnia's first opponents of the day were North London FC.  The boy's had previously played North London in the first week of action and were very successful winning 6 - 0.  Once again, Sarnia FC came out strong and dominated most play with great possession and passing skills. The boys had many ample opportunities to score however London's defense stood tall.  Sarnia mid-fielder, Nathan Hawkes would open the scoring on a beautiful give and go with striker Mateo Troiani.  Sarnia would quickly up their lead by two when right mid James Brown smashed in a beautiful header into the corner of the London goal!  Hawkes would complete the scoring in the second half giving Sarnia the win. Strong performances by the Sarnia defense (Dean Palimaka, Alex Newall, Cameron Hoek and Christian D'Agostini) and by keeper Andrew Harron!

Final Score:  Sarnia FC   3   -   North London   1

Four hours later, Sarnia would face the Eurostar Lions for their second match of the day. The Eurostars opened the game with lightening pace and forced Sarnia deep in their end for the first few minutes of action. Unfortunately, Sarnia would give up an own goal to put London Eurostars on the score board. They would continue to pressure and collect two more quick goals to up their lead by 3.  Sarnia would finally find their legs and began to force play. Striker Michael Howe, would open the Sarnia scoring on a strong shot which found the back of the Eurostar net. London entered the half up 3 - 1.

Sarnia FC would show their resilience in the second half as this group of determined athletes would mount the comeback. Nathan Hawkes would bring Sarnia within one goal as he blasted a shot into the top corner of the London goal. A few minutes later, defender Christian D'Agostini would tie the game on a beautiful low drive off of a free kick. This would start the see saw battle for the lead for the remainder of the game. The Eurostars would answer back quickly and re-gain the lead but not for very long as striker Mateo Troiani would again equalize with a forceful blast which eluded the London keeper. One more time the Lions took the lead and one more time Troiani would tie it up. Back and forth with great emotion the boys played their hearts out! In the dying minutes of the game Sarnia would be rewarded a free kick. Nathan Hawkes would take it from the left sideline. He sent the perfect volley into the box which found the head of a charging James Brown who directed it into the Eurostars goal. Sarnia would close out the game strong defensively and earn the win!

Final Score:  Sarnia FC   6   Eurostar's Lions   5 .
