Corunna Midget Giants Weekend Tournament Play Brantford

This past weekend saw the Corunna Midget Giants travel to Brantford for an Open Tournament. (Open is for all classifications and 10 of the 12 teams were AA or higher).

 

Friday night Corunna defeated Pickering by a score of 2 – 1. Jeremy Devereaux pitched a very solid game and was named game MVP for the Giants who played a brilliant defensive game to come away with the victory.

 

Saturday they faced off against Aurora. Derek Williams started on the mound for Corunna but an arm injury forced him out of the game very early and he was relieved by Kyle Scott who through a very strong remainder of the game. The game was closer than the 7 – 3 score would indicate a Aurora scored 3 in the last inning. Jamie Devereaux was game MVP for Corunna as he knocked in all three Corunna runs.

 

Late Saturday afternoon saw the Giants face the Mississauga Twins. Jordan Pavey started on the mound for the Giants and pitched a very good game. One defensive error late in the game came back to haunt the Giants as the Twins scored 4 runs after the error. Lauchlin MacDonald was the Giants game MVP with a solid defensive and offensive game in left field. Jake Dolbear came on in relief of Pavey and threw well also.

 

This week has the Giants playing only one game in Wallaceburg on Thursday before beginning a 5 game in 9 day stretch. On Saturday they host Belle River in Courtright at 2:00 before travelling to Amherstburg for 6:00pm start on Sunday night. Tuesday they host Wallaceburg in Corunna at 6:00 and travel to Wyoming on Thursday for a 7:00 pm game. They wrap up the five game stretch on Sunday in Windsor when the face the Walker Home Sites squad at 1:00 pm.
