Team Canada to Face Norway in Three Game Series

tuesday january 15, 2013

CALGARY, Alta. – Canada’s National Sledge Team will be in La Baie, Quebec (just outside Chicoutimi) for a three-game series against Norway from January 17-19 at the Centre des Sports Jean-Claude Tremblay, a newly sledge-accessible venue.

This marks Canada’s first international competition since taking a silver medal at the 2012 World Sledge Hockey Challenge in Calgary, Alta. in December. Canada faced Norway once during this event, during the round robin, and won 4-1, with forward Kevin Rempel (Vineland, Ont.) scoring twice, and Corbin Watson (Kingsville, Ont.) making eight saves for the victory.

Playing in his second National event is Forest native Tyler McGregor who recently competed in Calgary at the 2012 World Sledge Hockey Challenge.  In Calgary McGregor earned three points with a goal and two assists..

Canada will have one roster addition for this series, as forward Karl Ludwig (Brampton, Ont./ Mississauga Cruisers) has been added to the regular roster for this event.

“This is a great opportunity for our team to build on what we learned in December,” said Mike Mondin, head coach of Canada’s National Sledge Team. “Coming off a bronze medal at the World Sledge Hockey Challenge, Norway will definitely be looking for a better result, which will make for a very competitive series.”

Canada has a series against the United States in February 2013 and a training camp in March 2013, before heading to the 2013 IPC World Sledge Hockey Championship in Goyang, South Korea from April 12-20, 2013
