Petrolia Squires took a Win and A Loss over the Weekend

After their 5 - 4 overtime win in Petrolia Friday night against Thedford the Squires traveled to Tillsonburg and took a 5 - 3 loss against the Thunder on Saturday.

The Thunder took a 3 - 0 lead heading into the third period.  Dwayne Blais scored the first goal in the first period.  The second goal was scored in the second on a power play by Pat Ovellet and the third was a shorthanded goal by Ryan Devos.  In the third period Tillsonburg's Justin Salt widened the lead to 4  - 0  but less than a minute later Tyler Hadden scored to put the Squires on the scoreboard.  Scott McPhail added the second goal for the Squires to give Tillsonburg a 4 - 2 lead but Nathan Peacock added the fifth Thunder goal with 1:56 left in the game.  Petrolia continued to battle back and with :25 seconds remaining Jesse Drydak put the final goal in for the Squires and time ran out.  Scott McPhail was the top point getter for the Squires with a total of three points with one goal and two assists.

Ben Thomas took the win for Tillsonburg with 30 saves.  Chris Houle took the loss with a total of 36 saves.

The Squires 12 - 8 - 0 - 1  are currently tied for fourth spot with in the standings race with 25 points, even with Tillsonburg with one game back.

The Squires are back in action on Friday January 18 when the team travels to Goderich for an 8:30 start.
