Lambton Jr Sting AAA Minor Midgets Season Ends in Double Overtime

The Lambton Minor Midget AAA season came to an end after taking a 4 - 3 loss against the Chatham-Kent Cyclones. After five games both sides were even with a record of 2 - 2 - 1 with game six being the tie breaker.

 

 

The Jr Sting were trailing 2 - 0 heading into the third period. 

Both goals were scored in the first period the first by James McEwan and the second by Matthew Murphy.

Despite being down the Jr Sting continued to fight back and late in the third period Lambton scored their first goal on a power play with Sean Ginnell from Tim Kaldeway and Brett Corrigan assisting. 

 

With less than two minutes to play in the game Lambton once again found themselves on a power play and Brett Corrigan scored to tie the game. Austin Hewton earned the assist. 

 

The drama continued, with 1:16 left on the clock Lambton took a penalty after a player purposely moved the net during a scramble in front of his own net. The Referees called for a penalty shot and Mike Zottl beat Riley Collins to give Chatham a 3 - 2 lead.

 

Time was running out on the Jr Sting and in the last minute of play Collins skated to the bench to give Lambton the extra man attacker and with just :03 seconds left on the clock Cory Burr scored the tying goal that sent the game into overtime.

 

In the first overtime period action went end to end but the game wasn't solved and it went to a second overtime period.  With the action deep in Lambton's zone a missed pass by Lambton that was picked up by Brendan Ritchie who went in alone and scored the game winner for Chatham.


Brendan Johnston earned the win in net for the Cyclones . Chatham will move on to the quarter final round, their opponent not yet decided.

 

In the regular season Lambton placed sixth in the West Division with a record of 4 - 18 - 8.  In the playdown series the Jr Sting went up against 3rd place Sun County and lost three straight. With the loss against Chatham the Minor Midgets ended their 2012-13 season.
