Petrolia Squires Unlucky on Friday 13th

Friday the 13th was unlucky for the Petrolia Squires as they suffered a 6 - 5 overtime loss against the Tillsonburg Thunder in WOAA Senior AA Hockey.

 

Tillsonburg had a 2 - 1 lead after the first period.   Kevin Galeno scored the first goal for the Thunder.  Shawn Waldie negated the goal scoring for Petrolia.  With 4:17 left in the period Curtis Maracle regained the lead for the Thunder.

 

In the second Jeremiah Goodacre power play goal evened the score for the Squires.  Scott McPhail scored to give the Squires the lead for the first time then just :39 seconds later Adam McCallum scored to widen the lead.  Late in the period Nathan Peacock narrowed the gap for the Thunder but Scott McPhail regained the two point spread for the Squires with just over three minutes left in the period as the Squries led 5 - 3 heading into the third.

 

In the third Tillsonburg battled back and scored two unanswered goals for the tie sending the game into overtime .  Justin Salt scored the first goal for the Thunder followed by Shane Balcomb.

 

In overtime Tillsonburg Kevin Galerno scored with 3:19 remaining for the win.

 

Tillsonburg outshot Petrolia 45 - 32.  Petrolia netminder Chris Houle stopped 39 shots while Ben Thomas made 27 saves.

 

Petrolia went one for five on the power play, Tillsonburg was scoreless on six opportunities.
