Petrolia Squires Take Loss against Tavistock

The Petrolia Squires dropped a 7 - 4 loss against the Tavistock Royals Saturday night in WOAA Senior hockey league play.
The Royals went up 3 - 1 after the first period. Chad Swartzenruber, Miles MacLean and Josh Gaynor scored for the Royals. The lone goal in the first was on a power play scored by Scott McPhail from Jeff Gardner and Kyle Crawford.
In the second the Squires came within one scoring first in the period at 16:04 by Tyler Lewis with Jeff Gardner and Scott McPhail earning the assist. Kyle Wilhelm widened the lead to 4 - 2 for the Royals at 12:47 but the Squires continue to fight back and at 4:13 Norm Leger scored a power play goal assisted by Shawn Waldie and Kyle Crawford. Period ended with Tavistock leading 4 - 3.
Third period action saw the Squires tie the score at 15:34 with Tyler Haddon from Mitch Zavitz and Mike Gardner scoring. The Royals regained the lead and never looked back at 14:17 when Rueben Smith scored the first of two goals. Second goal was scored at 2:21. In the attempt to come back the Squries pulled their goalie for the extra man, but the Royals scored on the empty net to secure the win. Tyson Aitcheson scored the empty netter.
The Squires outshot the Royals 51 - 47. Chris Houle suffered the loss in net making 39 saves. Evan Groenestege made 47 saves for the Royals.
Petrolia is now in 5th place with a record of 5 - 7.
Next home game is Friday Dec 13 against Tillsonburg 8 pm at Greenwood Rec Centre.
