Alvinston Indians Clinch First Place
wednesday august 7, 2013

The Alvinston Indians traveled to Glencoe on Tuesday evening, for a 8:00 matchup with the home team, the Glencoe Astros.

The game was 1-1 after one inning, but things changed quickly in Alvinston's favour, as they scored 7 unanswered runs, taking a commanding 8-1 lead, before Glencoe added one back in the bottom of the 4th.  Now with an 8-2 lead, Alvinston added one more, in what seemed like a sure victory, before Glencoe made it a game, scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the 7th, for what turned out to be a 9-7 Alvinston Indians victory, clinching them first place in the St. Thomas & District Major Fastball League.

The highlight of the game was the back to back to back homeruns for the Alvinston Indians in the 4th inning, as Jeff Lyons, Aaron Stocking, and Ryan Chapman, all in succession, hammered homeruns.  Not to be outdone for the Indians, was Travis Pavey, who turned in a fine performance in the game, clubbing two solo homeruns, for five homeruns on the evening for the Indians.  Greg Eichenberger homered for Glencoe in the hard-fought loss.

Pavey also turned in a fine performance on the mound, and earned the win for the Indians, holding a strong Glencoe offence to only two runs through six innings, before they were able to get a string of hits together in the seventh.  Pavey tossed all seven innings, earned the win, allowed seven hits, on four walks, with one hit by pitch, and six strikeouts, in what was his first start of the year.  He did not disappoint, as he helped the Indians to clinch first place in the league.  Rookie Devin Triest also had a strong night at the dish, going 2 for 4 for the Indians, with a double and a single, one run scored, and two important RBI's, both with two outs in an inning.  Chapman was 3 for 4 in the contest for the Indians.

Scoring for Alvinston was Joe Triest (2), Pavey (2), Andy Triest, Devin Triest, Lyons, Aaron Stocking, and Chapman.  Driving in the runs were Lyons (3), D. Triest (2), Pavey (2), Stocking, and Chapman.

The Indians are now 18-4 on the season, and play at home on Thursday night, against the second place Shedden Mission, at 8:00pm in Alvinston.
