Sarnia Beavers Senior B Lacrosse Wins Home Opener

SATURDAY APRIL 27, 2013

The Sarnia Beavers allowed just 2 goals in the home opener 7 - 2 win over the Owen Sound North Stars Saturday night at the Clearwater arena.

"I thought it was an excellent game, our defence played superb." Head Coach Gord Neely said "To give up just two goals in a lacrosse game is pretty near unthought-of".

Owen Sound took the early lead scoring the first goal just over a minute into the first period.  Sarnia came back to tie late in the period with Colin McDowall scoring with Michael Fleming and Karontose Jacobs assisting. The period ended with the two sides even at 1 each.

In the second period the Beavers took the lead at 5:05 when Chris Davey fired in the second goal unassisted.  Sarnia's third goal came at 11:14  on a powerplay with Fleming scoring from McDowall and Davey.  Drew Davey gave Sarnia the 4 - 1 lead at 12:15 with Ryan Dark and McDowall assisting.

In the third period with :54 seconds off the clock the North Stars scored their second of the night on the power play. Sarnia widened their lead at 12:14 with Davey scoring his second goal of the night and Riley Thompson assisting.  With the Beavers down one man due to a penalty, Owen Sound pulled their goalie at 15:04 in the attempt to put some points on the scoreboard, but Lance Ross took the pass and found the opening and ran down to toss it into the empty net.  Brad Holbrough and Tom Quinn assisted on the goal. The Beavers topped off their scoring just :44 seconds later with the final goal by McDowall scoring his second of the night with Brian Quinn and Ryan Charteris assisting.

Outstanding goaltending for Sarnia by Greg Krstic who took over for netminder Justin Matthews who suffered a concussion in the game against Six Nations.  Matthews will be sidelined for another two to three weeks.

Jordan McMillen and Gatlin Burt scored the two goals for Owen Sound.

The Beavers are back in action next Saturday when they host Norwood.  Game time 7:00 pm at the Clearwater Arena.
