Sarnia, ON
– RBC Centre Sarnia General Manager Jacques Beaulieu has announced this morning
that the facility has decided to waive the two dollar parking fee for all Sarnia
Sting home games that was originally announced in August.
Beaulieu has
released the following statement on behalf of the facility;
“We are aware our
original concept of charging for parking at the RBC Centre for Sting games is
one that has been met with concern from our fans more specifically our loyal
season ticket holders. The original plan to charge for parking is something we
felt that we needed to implement to generate revenue in an effort to offset
operating losses that our ownership group has had to endure since our facility
opened its doors back in 1998. However after careful consideration and
deliberation between our senior management and ownership we have come to the
decision that with the best interest of our fans in mind we will waive the
parking fee and the RBC Centre will continue to be one of the few facilities in
the Ontario Hockey League that will offer free on site parking. In the meantime
the RBC Centre plans to work with the City to look at alternatives to ensure the
long term viability of the Centre.”
Any customer who
had previously purchased a $50 parking pass that was designed to offer season
ticket holders a discount for parking will be given a refund in full through the
RBC Centre Box Office.
