Team Pleased with Sting Defensive Play!
Sarnia Sting Minor Peewee MD team travelled to Forest to begin the year against
the Forest Rep Peewee Team.
The Sting started the game off quickly, the defense did a great job of helping
keep the puck in the Forest Zone. Damon Skinn-Wai helped keep it in, and the
puck was moved around effectively by Ian Bailey. Kaleb Zeytinoglu was able to
steal the puck along the boards, and fire a pass to Cole Goossens, who fired in
the first Sting goal of the Season.
The game went end to end, with great saves going by Stevie Schaefer, and great
defensive work by Aidan Clark, and Matt Waun keeping the game close.
Forest was able to chip on in at 6:54 of the first period.
Soon after, Aidan Clark passed the puck to Colin Zimmer, who set Tyler Talbot
free. Tyler uses his wheels to enter the zone, and deke the Forest Goalie to put
Sarnia Ahead again.
The second period started with play moving at both ends, Tyler Talbot-Ellis once
again found the inside of the net at 6:53 on an unassisted marker.
Forest would come within one goal at 6:17, however good play by Greg Ross and
Evan Trigatti would keep the game close. Josh D'Angela in his first game with
the Sting, showed he has what it takes, using his body to keep the puck moving
forward, with the puck coming loose to Andrew Czyczurko, with the loose puck
going to Hayden Griffin at 5:15 to give the sting a comfortable lead.
Forest would come back, knocking at the door at 3:16 of the second, but Kaleb
Zeytinoglu would dig it free in the corner to Cole Goossens who found the net
for his second of the game.
FINAL SCORE STING 5 Forest - 3
The coaching staff of Coach Tim, Ivan and Dwayne were all very pleased with the
defensive work by the team, and especially the extra effort given along the
boards.
Special mention goes to Matt Waun on his first assignment on D, and proving he
is a real blueliner!
The Sting play again against Mooretown on Friday Sept 21 @ 7pm at Sarnia Arena.
