SMAA Football had 4 games at
Norm Perry park Saturday September 15.
In the Atom Division, Planet Stitch Inferno bested the Rob
Simrak Magic Realty Razor Claws in a battle of undefeated
teams. Ethan Barnes led the Inferno with 3 touchdowns, on
runs of 3, 5 and 12 yards. Speedy Cody Johnston scampered to
the end zone from 6 yards and 10 yards. Mitchell Schechinger
converted 4 of the 5 touchdowns. Matt Gouviea led the Razor
Claws running the ball into the end zone on runs of 1 and 3
yards. Quarterback Jackson Grasse connected with Austin
Cressman on a 35 yard pass and run play for the other Razor
Claw major. Matt Gouviea converted the Cressman touchdown as
the Inferno prevailed 38-20.
Royal Canadian Legion Branch 62 gained their first win of
thew season in a back and forth battle with the Lanxess
Shock Wave.
Mattheus Hartmann was the star for the Iron Hides in the
first half, scoring 3 touchdowns, on two runs of of 35 yards
and another from 12 yards out. Lucas Kita continued where
Hartmann left off in the second half, racing to the end zone
from the 35 and the 30. Aaron Shanks took the rock to the
house twice in the first half for the Shock Wave and Ava
Phillips tallied the final Shock Wave major. The Iron Hides
took an 18-12 to the break at half time and won by a final
score of 30-20.
The first Bantam game between the Sarnia Police Association
Tiger Sharks and the Sylvan Learning Centre Bears was a
bruising affair. Austin Clement opened the scoring for the
Tiger Sharks as he rumbled 47 yards for a touchdown.
Keyshaun Jordan returned a punt 70 yards and converted his
own major. From then on the Bears controlled the clock with
a formidable running game. The tandem of Clay Mackie and
Matthew Paquette was an impressive combination. Matthew
Paquette narrowed the lead as he sped 25 yards to the end
zone. The teams traded touchdowns in the second half,
Paquette again scoring for the Bears and Jordan for the
Tiger Sharks. The fish prevailed 20-12.
In the final game the Mechanical Contractor's Association
Toros defeated the Mammoet Crane Incorporated Mammoths 32-6.
Jamie Campbell led the Toros with 3 touchdown runs with Aden
Alkinani tallying a major as well. Dale Leivo converted 3 of
these 4 touchdowns. The Mammoths had impressive drives but
frequently fumbles brought them to an end. Travis Conrad
caught a 14 yard pass from Nick Snow for the sole Mammoth
score.
