In the Senior A Canadian Lacrosse Championship the Peterborough Lakers won the coveted Mann Cup after clinching the best-of-seven series 4-2 on Saturday Sept 15, against the Langley Thunder at the Memorial Centre in Peterborough.
Sarnia Native Jim Purves and former player for the Sarnia Pacers Jr B is a member of the Championship team. Purves also played in the NLL for the 2012 Buffalo Bandits.
After losing the first two games to Langley (13 – 2, 15 – 14) the Lakers went on and won the next four to win the title. (14 – 10, 9 – 8, 9 – 5 and the final game 14 – 8).
The Mann Cup was presented by the late Sir Donald Mann, builder of the Canadian Northern Railway, for the Senior Amateur Championship of Canada and was originally a challenge cup. It is a gold cup, appraised at over $60,000 in 1999, and is one of the most valuable trophies in sport
